Information Mail 2

May 5th, 2002

Dear KDE-developers,

last year a lot of KDE developers (about 60) visited the Linuxtag and also
this year, it would be great if a lot of you are coming. We already have a
team to have your stay organized, hopefully better than last year.

The team consists of:
- Rainer Endres
- Matze Welwarsky
- Eva Brucherseifer
- Torsten Rahn
- Ralph Nolden
- Silke Thielmann

Your first contact is Eva (eva@kde.org), if you are not staff member. For
staff members, it's Matze (matze@stud.fbi.fh-darmstadt.de). Here is some
basic information you might be interested in:

General Questions on Linuxtag
========================
Check out
http://www.linuxtag.org/2002/deutsch/showitem.php3?item=179?=en#05

Registration (KDE)
=====================
In order to ease the management of everything, we made a registration form at
http://events.kde.org/registration/
Please register in time (at least one week before) so that we can mangage
things for you.

Registrations (Linuxtag)
===================
This year there are tickets to the Linuxtag. They are under the GPL, but you
will have to pay, if you don't have one beforehand. We will try to get
tickets for everyone who is registered.
If you decide to buy a ticket at the entrance, you'll sponsor the opensource
booths (which is highly appreciated by the linuxtag team). Additionally you
can also buy a LinuxtagKit at the entrance, which contains a ticket, the
Linuxtag CD, a pin and some other extras.
The registration is needed for the visitor statistics.

Business Cards
============
Danka will print business cards for 100 developers, so fill in all contact
information, if you want to have one. If you are not coming to Linuxtag, you
might fill in the alternative form at
http://events.kde.org/registration/ for business cards only.

Accommodation
=============
As last year the LUG of Karlsruhe is trying to get a gym hall as a free
sleeping place. Since last year a lot of people complained about the gym, we
tried to get some alternatives:
1) Youth Hostel
KDE e.V. is in the process of becoming member of DJH, so that all KDE e.V.
members or a group managed by a KDE e.V. member can stay in a youth hostel.
Unfortunately the youth hostel in Karlsruhe is booked out since December, so
 we only have 8 beds (in 2 rooms) there. But we can also get beds in
 Pforzheim and Baden-Baden, which is 1 hour travel with public transport.
One night with breakfast costs 16.50 Euro, about 3 km from the expo, about 15
min with public travel.
2) Etap Hotel
This is a lowcost hotel close to Karlsruhe-Durlach, 6km from the expo. With
public travel it's about 20 min. A room can be used by 2 persons, first one
costs 35 Euro, second one 6,50, breakfast is 4,50. You can do reservations
yourself, phone number is (+49) 0721 49 02 720, but you need a credit card
for that.
3) Gym hall
No further info yet.

We would like to pay rooms in the Eatp hotel for staff members, but we don't
have definitive funding for that yet (hint hint!).

Travelling
========
Please remember, that public train is cheaper, if you order the ticket 4
 weeks in advance, that would be, like, _now_ ! (Don't blame us, blame the
 marketing monkeys at Deutsche Bahn AG)

Expo/Booth times
==============
The expo starts every day at 8am and closes at 6pm, sunday at 4pm. We have 3
duty cycles: 8-12, 12-15, 15-18.
We will start to build up the booth at June 5th, 12am and do the cleanup
directly after the expo closes.

Staff members
===========
We are still searching for staff members. We want to have demo points on
 these projects:
KDE in general, pim/mail, kdevelop, edu
We also want to offer space for live hacking for KDE in general and koffice,
yet we don't know if the booth will be big enough.
Please tell us at least 1 week before, preferrably earlier, so that we can
manage things for you.

Staff FAQ
========
There is a general Staff FAQ at http://events.kde.org/faq/staff.php -
Hopefully it answers all quesions, if not - please mail
matze@stud.fbi.fh-darmstadt.de

Workshops
========
We are still in the search for people doing workshops, see the program at
http://www.infodrom.org/Debian/events/LinuxTag2002/workshops.php3 Thanks to
Ralph for adding the first ones :-)

Social Event
==========
Also this year there will be a social event for exhibitors. It will take
 place Thursday 6, the ticket costs 10 Euro.

Hopefully no questions are left ;-) and we'll meet a lot of you at the
Linuxtag :-))

See you in Karlsruhe,
Eva
- for the KDE Linuxtag team -
